The Asankragwa Magistrate Court in the Western Region has remanded two tutors of Asankragwa Senior High School – Ernest Donkor, 28 and Augustine Swanzy Oduro, 34 – into police custody, for allegedly raping a female student and indecent assault respectively.
Whilst Ernest Donkor has been charged for raping his victim, aged 16 years, contrary to Section 97 of the Criminal Offences Act, Act 29/60, Augustine Swanzy Oduro on his part has been charged with indecent assault, contrary to section 103 of the criminal Offences Act, Act 29/60.
The decision followed a complaint lodged with the police by the Assistant headmaster, Daniel Quayson. The Prosecutor, Adomako Kwadwo, told the court, presided over by His Worship Augustine Fiifi Donful, that the two victims are first year students of the school, whilst the suspects are also tutors of the same school.
According to him, on July 14, this year, during the Amenfi West Municipal Inter Schools Competition held at Asankrangwa Senior High School, the two suspects took the two victims out of the School premises and bought new dresses for them, so they can take them out to celebrate the birthday of one of them.
About 2pm on the same day, the two suspects took the victims to a hotel at Wassa-Dunkwa and bought Malta Guinness drinks for them.
Ernest Donkor (suspect) then took one of the victims to one of the hotel rooms to have a conversation with her.
Suspect Augustine Swanzy Oduro also took the other victim to another room under the same guise.
The court was told that whilst in the room chatting, Suspect Donkor’s victim excused herself to visit the washroom and left behind her Malta Guinness drink in the glass. When the victim returned from the washroom to drink the rest of the drink, she felt dizzy and slept, only to wake up and realise that there were blood stains between her thighs.
Suspect Augustine Swancy Oduro on his part made sexual body contacts with his victim by fondling her breast and touching her buttocks. The victim, however, managed to run out from the hotel room.
The two suspects later brought the victims back to campus. On their way to the campus, according to the Prosecutor, suspect Ernest Donkor, who has been charged with rape, promised to buy Iphone 7 plus, pizza and food for his victim and warned her not to tell anyone about what had happened. But the Victims defied the warning and reported the case to the Assistant Headmaster.
On July 15, 2022, the Complainant (Assistant headmaster), the victims, with the assistance of police arrested the two suspects.
Police medical form was issued to the Complainant on behalf of the victim to attend hospital for medical examination, findings and report. Police investigation continues.
