Another ECG high tension pole cut down in Yilo Krobo

Another high tension pole belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) that transmits power to some areas in the Yilo Krobo and Okere Districts in the Eastern Region has come under attack by yet to be identified people.

It could be recalled that on August 5, this year, a similar criminal act was perpetuated in a similar style.

It was discovered on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Adelakope in the Yilo Krobo Municipality on the Tema-Akosombo highway, that another pole, next to an earlier one, was cut down in August this year.

It appeared the culprit/s used a logging machine to undertake the unscrupulous act, with many people in the area linking it to the long existing misunderstanding between the Krobos and ECG.

The affected a line supplying power to Adelakope, Akorley, the Adukrom water pumping stations amongst others.

Though it’s not clear exactly when the act was committed, the latest discovery comes precisely three months after a pole right next to the current incident was similarly cut down by unknown persons.

Engineers from the ECG spent close to two hours at the scene excavating a six-foot deep hole into which a new pole was lodged to hold the cables to avert a possible interruption in the network.

The people of Nuaso have seriously kicked against the installation of prepaid meters in the area, and it will be recalled that eight persons were believed to be victims of military brutality after they resisted the installation of meters.

Nuaso was subsequently cut off from the power grid after the tensions, and has since not had power.

The new act has been described by a Presidential Staffer, Mr. Robert Tetteyfio Adjase, who is also a native of the area, as barbaric and unfortunate, since it would suffocate the several efforts made to make sure the people of Nuaso were connected back to the national grid.

Note that the people of Nuaso are still in darkness after power was restored to Krobo land.

He has called on the people to use negotiation to address the situation rather than untraditional and uncivilised manners, as he pleaded with the people of Nuaso to be calm to help solve the ECG-Krobo issue.

The Presidential Staffer said there had been several meetings between himself, the Managing Director of the ECG, as well as National Security and hopefully power would be restored soon.
