Public Junior High Schools in both the Obuasi East District and Obuasi West Municipality are the proud beneficiaries of 13,000 Career Technology Textbooks donated by AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi mine in partnership with the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation.

As part of the package, the schools were also presented with 150 graph boards, as well as 150 geometric sets at a total cost of GHC1 million.

Some of the books packed in boxes.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, Community Relations Manager of AGA said this is the second batch of books presented to schools this year, bringing the total number of books so far donated since 2022 to 143,000.

He noted that education is a component under the company’s 10-Year Socio Economic Development Plan (SEDP), hence its partnership with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation to ensure that Obuasi schools are not left out when it comes to quality education.

The Obuasi East District Director of Education, Mr. Kwabena Owusu Nketia, who received the books on behalf of the two directorates thanked the donors for the gesture.

He praised AngloGold for supporting education in Obuasi in several ways. He mentioned the construction of classrooms, presentation of awards to teachers, organisation of workshops for teachers and head teachers, among others, as some of the support offered.

The Director pointed out that following AngloGold’s constant help to Obuasi schools, with its accompanying improvement in students’ performance some parents have started withdrawing their wards from private schools to public schools.

Mr. Hayford Tweneboah Kodua, Education Programmes Manager, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, on his part, encouraged parents to prevail on their wards to read the text books when they come home.
