AngloGold Ashanti, through its Community Health Outreach Programme, has organised a mini clinic at the Sanso community, near Obuasi, to bring healthcare to the doorstep of residents.

The initiative forms part of AngloGold Ashanti’s broader plan to improve healthcare accessibility for residents in its host communities under its 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP), which runs until 2031.

The Sanso mini clinic, along with other community health initiatives, underscores AngloGold Ashanti’s continued commitment to improving healthcare delivery and supporting sustainable community development in its operational areas.

The mini clinic is designed to provide essential health services to people in Sanso and surrounding areas, eliminating the need for long travel to access medical care.

The outreach programme marks the fourth in a series of mini clinic exercises undertaken with more than 4,800 individuals out of a target of 5,500 screened so far this year.

“This mini clinic is one of the testaments to our commitment to improving access to quality healthcare,” said Nane Ache, Social Development and Gender Officer at AngloGold Ashanti said.

The outreach programme, according to Ache, is open not only to residents of Sanso, but also to adjoining communities, offering various screening and treatment services including mental health checks, prostate cancer screening, breast cancer screening and general health assessments.

“You don’t necessarily need to be sick before getting screened. Screening should be part of everyday life. We want people to be proactive when it comes to their health and safety,” Ache emphasised.

The company conducts quarterly interventions aimed at promoting public health and well-being in its operational communities. Ache also highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and paying attention to mental health as part of overall well-being.

“We have just one life to live. We must eat well, exercise well, sleep well and talk to people when we feel depressed. Mental health is critical and we should all be proactive about it.”
