AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mine has held a Durbar and free mini clinic for the people of Amamom and surrounding communities in the Amansie Central District of Ashanti. The day was also used to create awareness about HIV/AIDS.
Supported by AGA Health Foundation, GIZ, AGA Malaria Control and the Ghana Health Service, the programme screened over a thousand people for various conditions such as malaria, HIV, hepatitis, dental diseases and eye checks.
In a speech, the head of Stakeholder Engagement and Land Management of AngloGold, Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, noted that the mine recognises the importance of maintaining good health and well-being within its host communities, hence the Durbar and free mini clinic.
“Through these public education and screenings, it is hoped that potential health risks are detected early and mitigated to ensure that our communities receive the necessary care and support they need. Together, we can work towards eradicating these diseases and creating a healthier environment for present and future generations,” Mr. Oduro Agyei added.
Dr. Justin Dakorah, Head, Occupational Health Department of AGA Health Foundation, speaking on HIV/AIDS, encouraged the Ghanaian public to abstain, be faithful and use condom in order to escape from being affected by the disease.
Nana Osei Nimakoh III, Anyankyiremhene and Bekwaimanhene’s Akwanserahene, who chaired the function, thanked AGA and its partners for making such great impact in the lives of the people of Amamom and the surrounding communities, with the health screening and the free mini clinic.
