An aspiring presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has cautioned the Presidential Election Committee to ensure transparency and fairness in the NPP presidential primaries.
Speaking in an interview with the media at his office at Ridge, in Accra last Wednesday, October 25, 2023 Dr. Akoto urged the Prof. Oquaye led committee to be futuristic and ensure that the unity of the party is safeguarded going into the 2024 general elections.
“I am prepared to give the benefit of the doubt and hope that everything will be alright because the implication of all this is the unity of the people. If we are not seen to be having a level-playing field after November 4, it is going to be very difficult to unite the party against the NDC. That is my worry”, he noted.
With some few days to the November 4 polls, the former Minister of Food and Agriculture has intensified his strategic campaign, meeting grassroot delegates of the party, notably Electoral Area Coordinators and some selected Polling Station Executives who are party of his campaign team.
From the Greater Accra Region, through the Eastern Region, to the Ashanti Region, Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions, the Cambridge University Scholar keeps winning the hearts of thousands of delegates with his vision of sustainable party-owned businesses aimed at providing jobs and incentives for the party’s activists, on whose shoulders the victory of the party rests to break the eight-year governance cycle.
In all the areas he has so far visited, the former two-term Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso constituency told the delegates that they deserve a leader who understands the plight of the people and also have the right remedies to address their concerns.
“I am the only candidate who has demonstrated that attitude and proffered the time-honored solutions. So, please give me the chance to prove that to you. I am sad about the current situation of the party”, he noted, much to the applause of delegates in the Bono Region.
The NPP goes to the polls on November 4, 2023 to select a presidential candidate who will lead the party to the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Akoto is number 3 on the ballot paper. He placed 4th in the Super Delegates Conference held on August 26, 2023.Over 210,000 delegates are expected to vote in the National Delegates Conference on November 4, 2023.
