Airstrike Tragedy: NAF delegates visit Zamfara for on-the-spot assessment

A high-powered delegation from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Headquarters, Abuja, has arrived in Zamfara State to conduct an on-the-spot assessment following the recent airstrike tragedy in the state.

Airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force on Saturday evening, mistakenly hit members of the local vigilantes and local residents in Tungar Kara community, leaving at least 16 people dead.

The delegation, led by Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Edward Gabkwet, while in Zamfara State also paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, where they condole with the state government over the incident and expressed the Air Force’s commitment to combating terrorism in the region.

During the meeting, AVM Gabkwet assured Governor Lawal of the NAF’s unwavering dedication to fighting banditry and restoring peace to the troubled state.

He emphasized that the Air Force remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives and property, promising a thorough investigation into the recent incident.

Governor Dauda Lawal, in his response, commended the Nigerian Air Force for their visit and their continuous efforts in addressing the security challenges facing Zamfara State.

He expressed confidence in the collaboration between the state government and security agencies in ensuring lasting peace and stability.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Governor Lawal reiterated his commitment to providing necessary support to security operatives and called for greater synergy among all stakeholders in the fight against insecurity.

The delegation also visited the Headquarters of Theater command of Joint Taskforce Operation Fansan Yamma and later proceeded to Tungar Kara community for an on-the-spot assessment.
