The Ahyirem Royal Family, one of the Royal Gates of the Offinso Traditional Area, has challenged the legitimacy of Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong as a member of the royal family of the Offinso Traditional Area.
According to the Ahyirem Royal Family, a copy of the family tree, presented by Dr. Sarpong as proof of his royalty, is not valid.
It said the seeming unflinching support by some Kingmakers of the Offinso Traditional Area for Dr. Sarpong is only an attempt to leverage on the affluent nature of the former Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) boss, to get him installed as Chief of Offinso.
The family has, therefore, urged Dr. K.K. Sarpong to discard every interest gained so far, regarding the Offinso chieftaincy.
The Ahyirem Royal Family has pledged their allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and openly condemned actions of some youth of Offinso Township for their gross disrespect towards the Asantehene, arising from the ongoing chieftaincy dispute between the Ahyirem Family and Akonkodease Family of Offinso.
Mr. Thomas Agyare Boateng, the Secretary to the Ahyirem Royal Family, at a press conference at Afrancho, last November 2, 2023 stated that the youth are being compelled by some unscrupulous persons who are doing all they could to ensure that Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong is installed as Chief of Offinso.
The family has, therefore, appealed to the Ghana Police Service to crack the whip on any individual or group of persons who attempt to cause disorder, by issuing disparaging remarks against the overlord of the Asante Kingdom.
