Agotime Kente Festival 2024 kicks off in grand style

The chiefs and people of the Agotime Traditional Area, under the auspices of the Konor, Nene Nuer Keteku IV, have announced the completion of preparations for the 2024 Agotime Kente Festival (Agbamevor Za).

This vibrant and culturally rich event, celebrated annually, kicked off in grandstyle on Sunday, August 4, 2024 and is expected to end on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

The theme for this year’s festival is: “Repositioning the Kente Heritage for Inclusive Development.”

The Grand Durbar, the highlight of the celebration, is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 2024 starting at 9am at the GRA Park, AgotimeKpetoe.

This year’s festival will be graced by the presence of government representatives, ministers, Members of Parliament, distinguished chiefs and queen mothers, members of the diplomatic corps, captains of industry, and tourists from around the world.

The event promises a diverse range of activities, including – Football Gala, Health Walk, Quiz Competition, Women and Children’s Day, Mini Durbar, Godigbe (historic day of landing), Kente Weaving Competition, Heroes and Heroines’ Day, Asialetorme (Maidens Water Fetching Rite), Miss Kente Pageant, Food Bazaar, Street Carnival, Grand Durbar and Inter-denominational thanksgiving church service.

The 2024 Festival aims to be an unforgettable cultural experience, celebrating the beauty and heritage of the Kente cloth while promoting inclusive development for the Agotime Traditional Area.

A total of 37 towns and villages of Agotime, Ghana and Togo come together every year to celebrate the Agotime Kente Festival.
