AGA organises community durbar, mini clinic for Obuasi community

A major Community Durbar and Mini Clinic to take care of the health needs of the people of Obuasi have taken place at the forecourt of the Len Clay Sports Stadium.

Over two thousand people were treated of various diseases with the cost of the treatment borne by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mine.

Partners in the day’s programme were Otumfuo Smiles Dental Outreach, GIZ, AGA Health Foundation, Ghana Health Service and AGA Malaria Control.

The Community Relations Manager of AGA, Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, disclosed that the company has since 2021 organised and held 14 mini clinics.

“I am proud to highlight that the many clinics and other health screenings we have undertaken with partners beyond our quarterly health outreaches have screened and treated about 30,000 people to date,” he said.

The Community Relations Manager said in addition the company had facilitated training for over 500 health workers in various health sub-specialities like burns treatment and management, cervical, neonatal and infectious disease prevention among other areas.

“Through our collective efforts, we are not only providing much needed healthcare services, but also raising awareness of the importance of early detection and prevention through these clinics,” Mr. Oduro Agyei added.

The Obuasi Municipal Director of Health, Mr. Martin Sarfo Osei, on his part urged the general public to make it a habit to visit the clinic at least three times in a year to check on their health condition and praised AGA and partners for bringing the mini clinic to the people.

Mr. Kwesi Oduro Korankye, Project Officer of Otumfuo Smiles Dental Outreach in an interview with The Chronicle at the end of the Programme said as many as 486 persons were treated of their dental problems with 120 extraction cases.
