Under the Sanso Apprenticeship to Entrepreneurship Project, 19 ladies from Sanso in the Obuasi West Municipality in the Ashanti region are being supported by AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine to train under ten master craft persons in dress making and hair dressing for a period between 8-12 months.
The six master dress makers will take care of 11 ladies, while the four master hairdressers will also take care of eight ladies.
Under the terms of engagement, AGA will provide the master craft persons in the case of the dress makers with an industrial sewing machine and industrial over lock machine for each of them.
Each of the master hairdressers will also get a standing drier, hair washing basin, pedicure bowl, styling salon chair and make-up tools box.
Speaking at a ceremony to introduce the trainees and the master craft persons to the Sanso community and also give the machines to the beneficiaries, Mr. Daniel Arthur Bentum, Economic Development Superintendent of AGA, assured the trainees that they would be given similar machines to work with on completion of their training.
He mentioned that after six months a monitoring team will go round to do a major assessment of the trainees performance and urged them to show diligence and commitment in their work.
The Assemblyman for Sanso, Mr. Justice Ofori Amanfo, who received the machines on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the company for the gesture.
“The entire Sanso community will forever be grateful to AGA for such empowerment especially when Sanso is the first in Obuasi to get such support,” Mr. Ofori Amanfo noted.
