A combined team from the Sustainability Department of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine, Education Directorate and the Obuasi Municipal Assembly have inspected five main projects under construction by various Contractors.
The projects are part of AGA’s 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan. They are; a Multi-purpose Robotics Centre at the Obuasi Senior High Technical School, a Clinic at Apitikooko, a Health Centre for Dokyiwa/Binsere and a Soap Factory at Dokyiwa.
Also under the project, a Theatre, Laboratory and Pharmacy are being constructed at the Akrokerri Health Centre, where existing facilities are undergoing maintenance.
At all the five areas the team visited, it was observed that four of the projects were at various stages of completion while the soap factory at Dokyiwa had been completed, awaiting commissioning.
Project Managers of the yet to be completed projects assured that they will be completed by the end of the year.
Commenting on the Robotics Centre, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, Mr. George Alfred Koomson, said the Centre would come with a lot of benefits when it is completed.
According to him, the Robotics Centre will go a long way to enhance the chances of Obuasi Senior High Technical School as a school noted for robotic education.
The Adansi North District Coordinating Director, Nana Okra Debrah, expressed regret over the delay in the completion of the Akrokerri projects and urged the construction company to up its game to ensure their early completion.
On his part, the Krontihene of Dokyiwa, Nana Kwame Sa, was happy that the soap factory had been completed and appealed for its early commissioning to enable the beneficiaries to start using it.
Mrs. Mavis Nana Yaa Kyei, Social Development and Gender Superintendent of AGA was not happy with the slow pace at which work on the projects were moving and urged the contractors to speed up processes to ensure their early completion.
