AGA builds GH¢2.2M exams printing centre or Obuasi East

A GH¢2,249,281.00 Examination Printing Centre well fitted and furnished by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mine to help in the printing of examination questions in the Obuasi East District of Ashanti has been commissioned.

The Community Relations Manager of AGA, Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei said at the commissioning ceremony that prior to the construction of the Examination Printing Centre, the mine, through its Community Investment Strategy sponsored the printing of mock Examination papers to support Obuasi Basic Schools students prepare for the BECE.

He stated that while this was helpful, the company found this model unsustainable hence the idea for the construction of the Examination Printing Centre was hatched.

“We believe that the Examination Printing Centre will contribute to a more organized and reliable examination system, which will benefit the school examiners and students,” Mr. Oduro Agyei added.

The Obuasi East District Education Director, Mr. Kwabena Owusu Nketiah, thanked all those who contributed to realise the dream of his Directorate.

He stated, “from the designers and the engineers who worked tirelessly to bring the press to life to the technicians who painstakingly fine-tuned its operation, the assembly and AngloGold and each individual who played a role in making this day possible, I say Ayekoo.”

The Obuasi East DCE, Madam Faustina Amissah said the assembly had a Herculean task sponsoring the printing of mock and other examinations questions for students and pupils in the district and thanked AGA for the gesture.

Nana Kofi Berchie, Regent of Akrokerri, noted that the provision of the Examination Printing Centre is a testament of AngloGold’s commitment towards improvement of education in Obuasi.

He expressed the wish that those who would man the facility would work diligently to avoid leakages of examination printing papers.
