Afigya Kwabre Assembly distributes pawpaw seedlings to farmers

DCE Adu-Poku and Agric director giving pep talk to the farmers at the nursery

The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly has embarked on the piloting of pawpaw farming in the district.

As a result, it has distributed about 20,000 pawpaw seedlings to farmers in the district, most of who turned out to be in the youth age bracket.

When successful, the project, which is on a pilot basis, would lead to the establishment of a processing plant to turn the pawpaw fruits into different kinds of finished products.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Christian Adu-Poku, during the distribution exercise, urged the youth to fully participate in the venture to get them adequately resourced in order to be self reliant.

He reiterated the President’s support to farmers through the Assembly, by supplying farmers with rice seeds, oil palm seedlings, coconut seedlings and lately pawpaw seedlings.

The DCE stated that some farmers had also been supplied with piglets to enhance the capacity of livestock farmers in the field of animal husbandry.

He indicated that these interventions by the government were meant to encourage the farmers to build their capacities towards being self reliant.

The Agric Director, Mr. Amoako, thanked the government and the District Assembly for the support given to the Agric Department to resource farmers within the District.

Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for Ankaase Electoral area, Emmanuel Kwame Boamah, has received 5,000 seedlings of different species of trees, and 1,000 teak seedlings from the District Assembly for distribution to farmers and schools under the Green Ghana project.
