Mr. Francis Addai-Nimoh, a presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially sought the blessings and approval of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, in his bid to contest in the party’s presidential race.
The ex-lawmaker of Asante Mampong, who declared his intentions to contest the NPP flagbearership early this year, formally informed the Asantehene during the observation of Awukudae on Wednesday at Manhyia Palace. Otumfuo Osei Tutu assured the flagbearer hopeful of his prayers and support.
He cautioned that a flagbearer should not only be acceptable to his party, but also the entire Ghanaian electorate. The King described Addai-Nimoh as humble and respectful, and urged him to bring his expertise and experience to the growth of the party, devoid of acrimony.
Otumfuo noted that his (Addai-Nimoh) bid would serve the interests of the Ashanti Region, and encouraged him to diligently pursue his ambition.
Addai-Nimoh reiterated his call for a new face to lead the NPP in order to break the 8 in the 2024 elections, and said he was best qualified to lead the party as the new face agenda, because he had was of unblemished character, besides being a unifier.
Mr. Addai-Nimoh, Member of Parliament for Mampong Constituents from 2013 to 2020, contested the NPP flagbearership race in 2014 alongside Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Mr. Joe Ghartey, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, and Prof. Ekumfi Ameyaw, and placed third in the election.
