Adansihene calls for decent political campaign ahead of general elections

The Adansihene, Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II, has noted that politics of insult belongs to the past and the time has come for politicians to campaign on issues, while telling the electorate what they can do when elected.

Omanhene made the remarks in a speech to mark the 10th Anniversary of his installation as Adansihene at Fomena, in Ashanti, on Saturday.

Speaking on the theme: “Decade of Peace Building, Accountability and Transparent Leadership; The Adansi Story and the Expectations of Its Traditional Leaders,” the Omanhene said Ghana is a peaceful country and the expectation of everyone is that the country will continue to see peace before, during and after the general elections.

“Let us stop the politics of tomato and plantain prices. As a country we need development and politicians should talk about development and nothing else,” he stated.

He expressed regret over the fact that most of the divisions in Adansi did not bring representatives to the function and urged them to forget the past and join hands with him to develop the Adansi state.

He said as Omanhene he has devoted all his life for the upliftment of Adansi and urged all to join him to achieve his objectives.

The Adansihene also expressed regret that five of the six MPs, as well as five of the MMDCEs in Adansi, did not attend the function even though they were all duly invited.

“You have refused to respond to my invitation and since we are in a political campaign season will you accompany the Vice President to my palace when he touches down at Fomena on a campaign tour,” he asked.

Nana Obiri Boahen, a former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, who was the Guest of Honour at the function, said he had personally acknowledged the fact that there was disunity in Adansi and pledged his personal involvement to address the issue.

Among personalities who graced the occasion were the MP for Fomena, Lawyer Andrew Amoako Asiamah, the Adansi North DCE, Mr. Eric Kusi Jnr, the Clergy and representatives of companies and institutions.
