The Adansi Development Association, in collaboration with Rotary Club Accra and the Health directorates of Adansi North and Asokwa districts have jointly organised a free health screening exercise for residents in AdansiAsokwa and surrounding communities.
It is aimed at bringing quality healthcare services to the doorsteps of the people by preventing diseases among the residents in the various beneficiary communities and also to help determine the health status of the residents in the area.
The exercise was sponsored by Adansi Travels, Hentina Ltd, Sama Foundation, Kinapharma Ltd and members of the Adansi Development Association.
The exercise had previously been conducted at Akrofuom and Akrokerri in May, this year. It was, therefore, the turn of AdansiAsokwa, Bodwesango, Ahinsan and Dompoase where free medications were provided for patients who were diagnosed of symptoms of different illnesses and deworming for those who needed them.
Mrs. Herrietta Oppong, President of the Association, explained that the exercise was organised in partnership with Adansi Health Tourism and others.
She said, as part of the Association’s health intervention programmes, it has dedicated the year 2023 to screen people of various ailments, including Blood pressure, Diabetes and Malaria, among others, in all the seven paramountcies in Adansi.
He said a lot of health facilities pay critical attention to patients with primary, secondary and tertiary health challenges, with little attention to regular check-up or screening of members of the public who have no health disorders to detect early symptoms of possible disorders.
Mr. David Kunta, the AdansiAsokwa District Director of Health services revealed that Malaria tops OPD cases in the district, a situation he described as very worrying, and called on residents to observe a clean environment to reduce the spread of diseases.
He commended the Adansi Development Association and its partners for the health screening exercise, adding that it contributed to preventive healthcare, which is the best way to fight diseases.
Dr Lois Patricia Laryea Cheataa-Laryea, of Adansi Health Tourism, a subsidiary of Adansi Travels, also expressed her excitement for being part of the free medical screening exercise, since their objectives is to help bridge the health gap in Adansi, which is in line with the Association’s objective.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed worry over the high cost involved in accessing health screening and called on the government, through the ministry of health, to help reduce the cost and enable the majority to visit the health facilities.
