The Adansi Development Association, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Accra-Kanda, has trained over 500 women in the Adansi enclave in vocational skills for self-sustainability.
The 4-day free training Programme took place at Kwame Adukrom, near New Edubiase, with participants drawn from Akrofuom, Dompoase, Bodwesango and Kwapia.
The women were taken through washing powder, liquid soap, bleach, antiseptic, brown sugar, fascinators and coded slippers.
Madam Herrietta Oppong, the President of the Adansi Development Association said the training was aimed at alleviating poverty through empowering the youth and women to be equipped with the skills to become potential entrepreneurs and help curb the unemployment situation among women in the Adansi enclave.
According to her, the initiative would serve as income-generating activities to provide opportunities for the youth and the women, and expressed the hope that the beneficiaries would utilise the acquired knowledge effectively.
She disclosed that as natives of Adansi, they have been mobilising resources to support programmes and initiatives in their communities every year.
Madam Oppong further appealed to indigenes of Adansi across the globe to join the association in order to give back to society, adding that their monitoring team would evaluate the impact of the training programme and assess its effectiveness to enable them roll out such laudable training programmes.
She commended Liquid Lye Ltd, Hentina Limited, Nimabrok Ltd and Sama foundation for supporting and making the project a success.
Mr. Samuel Nissi Odame, Rotarian of the Rotary Club of Accra-Kanda said it was a great opportunity to expand its commitment to making an impact in the communities through the project and commended the participants for availing themselves to be trained.
Azariah Martey Korley, a facilitator of the training lauded the youth and women for their commitment towards the training and added that vocational skills are the way to go in having a self-sustained economy.
He urged the government to invest in skills acquisition and development of entrepreneurial skills.
Mr. Michael Thompson the CEO of Liquid Lye Ltd expressed his excitement about the successful training programme and emphasized the importance of safety measures when using the chemicals for production.
