The Adankwame community mining scheme in the Nwabiagya Municipality of the Ashanti Region has donated teaching and learning materials to Amadum-Adankwame Methodist Primary and Junior High Schools towards improving the standards of education in the area.
The items presented include exercise books, boxes of chalks, sets of jerseys and footballs worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
Mr. Godwin Selase Zigah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Community Mining Scheme, explained that the gesture was part of the scheme’s corporate social responsibility to raise the quality of education in both academics and sports in their catchments areas.
The CEO entreated other corporate organisations and institutions to honour their corporate social responsibilities in their operational environments to enhance development to complement the government’s efforts to share the national cake equally.
Mr. Peter Agarli, Assembly Member for Asakraka Electoral Area, and the Headmaster of the Schools expressed their profound gratitude to the Adankwame Community Mining Scheme for the support.
According to Mr. Agarli, the mining scheme had, in less than seven months of operations, been very supportive under its corporate social responsibility in diverse ways, from reshaping of roads, refuse evacuation, education motivation, and currently the construction of a modern library complex to boost Information and Communications Technology (ICT) education in the community.
Nana Appiah Boateng, Chief Linguist of Akropong and Nana Appiah Kubi, Vice Chairman of the Management Committee (SMC) of Amadum- Adankwame Basic Schools, commended Mr. Selassie and his management hoping the initiative would go a long way to boost education in the community and municipality.
