Adaklu MP asks youth to establish own businesses

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Adaklu, Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, has called on the youth to embrace skills training at the various vocational and technical institutions to enable them to acquire employable skills.

According to Mr Agbodza, the public sector does not have the capacity to employ all the youth and that it was important for the youth to value self-employment as an important area for wealth creation and should not concentrate on non-existing white colour jobs.

The MP, who made the call at the graduation ceremony of 30 women from the Divine Flavours Training Institute (DFTI) in Ho, over the weekend, said it was becoming increasingly clear that the public sector could not employ the teaming unemployed youth, therefore vocational training was the answer.

Mr Agbodza commended parents for encouraging their wards to develop their skills to enable them establish their own businesses, but expressed concern about lack of interest among young men to be trained in skills acquisition.

The MP for Ketu South, Madam Dzifa Gomashie, asked the grandaunts to develop sound customer relations’ skills in carrying out their businesses, because their actions and inactions as entrepreneurs could affect their work.

The MP also stressed the need for young entrepreneurs to conduct themselves well by upholding ethical conducts that would enable them to attract and retain customers.

This, she said, includes good communication skill because if customers are not properly handled, it could affect their businesses.

The Proprietor of DFTI, Mr Sylvester Amegayibour, observed that self-employment had the potential to promote rapid economic growth and capable of addressing the high unemployment situation in the country.

Mr Amegayibour, therefore, appealed to the government to support the private sector by creating opportunities that would help the sector to train and promote self-employment.
