The Aboom Special Needs School in Cape Coast, which is responsible for the training of children with special needs, is in dire need of logistical and infrastructural support.
According to the Headmistress of the school, Mary Osei, the lack of adequate infrastructure was hampering effective teaching and learning, and has become a major problem.
Madam Mary Osei made this known during a visit by the President of the Cape Coast Rotary Club, Lawrencia Entsua, to donate stationery and other items, valued at GH¢9,000 to the school.
She noted that the lack of adequate infrastructure meant that many prospective pupils were turned away, because the school did not have enough capacity to accommodate them.
She mentioned, for instance, that she often received calls from parents across the region, and the country at large, who desired to send their children with special needs to the school, but she had to turn them down.
Madam Mary Osei has, therefore, appealed to the central government to, as a matter of urgency, assist the school to locate to a new compound where adequate infrastructure could be built to accommodate the ever-increasing population.
She further noted that daily commuting of the pupils to and from their various homes was exhausting, and appealed for a vehicle and also for the school to be upgraded to boarding status.
Madam Lawrencia Entsua stated that it was the vision of the Club to ensure that children with special needs were not left behind, hence, the decision to offer a helping hand.
She expressed gratitude to all Rotarians and others who, in diverse ways, contributed significantly to support with donations to the Special School.
