A-Plus is MP elect for Gomoa Central Constituency

A-Plus, a Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur, has won the parliamentary election for the Gomoa Central Constituency on December 7, 2024.

A-Plus ran as an independent candidate.

In a social media post, A-Plus proudly declared, “I WON!!”

He defeated the incumbent Member of Parliament, Naana Eyiah Quansah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Naana Eyiah has been the MP for Gomoa Central and is currently Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Interior.

Kwame A-plus won the election by beating the incumbent member of Parliament Naana Eyiah by 14,277 votes out of 36,026 total number of valid votes cast, leaving 11,637 for Naana Eyiah of the NPP and 10,112 for Ywason Mohamed of the NDC.

Kwame Asare Obeng, a first-time contestant has left the incumbent MP for the constituency and her supporters in shock.

Some of the youths of the constituency expressed disappointment in Naana Eyiah leading to their decision to vote her out.

The youth said “no form of developmental projects has come to their constituency.”

Naana Eyiah, who is also a Deputy Minister for the Interior has served the constituency for two terms in Parliament.

In 2016, she defeated the Rachel Florence Appoh of the NDC 14,178 votes (51.6%), and in 2020, Naana Eyiah defeated Jonamoah Moses Jeh-Appiah of the NDC with 20,527 votes(56.81).

The Gomoa Central Constituency has been an NPP stronghold for the past eight years. But in 2024, a new and first-time contesting candidate Kwame A-plus has emerged as the new Member of Parliament for the constituency.
