The Western Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Kojo Toku, has strongly refuted allegations linking him to a supposed deal involving railway scraps in the region.
In a statement issued in Takoradi and signed by his Special Aide, Eric Kweku Kyeremah, the Regional Chairman described the claims as “baseless, mischievous, and a deliberate fabrication by detractors seeking to tarnish my hard-earned image.”
The controversy stems from claims by a group of scrap dealers, said to be sympathizers of the NDC, who allege they are demanding a refund of GH₵330,000, purportedly paid to some constituency chairmen of the party to secure access to 100 tonnes of railway materials.
One of the dealers, identified as Alhaji Razak, speaking on a Takoradi-based radio station, alleged that he and his colleagues had paid the amount to certain party officers and planned to petition the regional executives for a refund.
The allegations follow a National Security operation that reportedly clamped down on the activities of the said scrap dealers at the Takoradi Harbour.
However, in a swift response, the statement from the NDC Regional Chairman categorically denied any involvement in the matter.
“The Regional Chairman has no involvement whatsoever—directly or indirectly—in any transaction, decision, or activity relating to the said railway scraps,” the statement emphasized.
Nana Toku, who is widely regarded as a unifying figure within the NDC’s Western Regional structure, said it was regrettable that some individuals would attempt to smear his name for political gain.
“Any attempt to link my name to this matter is a deliberate act of mischief aimed at tarnishing my hard-earned reputation,” he declared.
He further stated that he remains steadfast in upholding the values of transparency, accountability, and integrity that guide his leadership within the party.
The Regional Chairman, therefore, urged party members, the media, and the general public to disregard the unfounded allegations and treat them with the contempt they deserve.
Meanwhile, party insiders say Nana Toku remains focused on strengthening unity within the NDC, mobilizing grassroots support, and ensuring the party maintains its dominance in the Western Region ahead of the 2028 general elections.
