The National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially lifted the suspension on professional boxing in Ghana, marking a new era for the sport following months of reform and consultation.

The decision, effective Thursday, November 6, 2025, comes after the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (IMC) successfully implemented enhanced medical and safety protocols alongside improved governance structures.

The NSA praised the IMC, athletes, and other stakeholders for their patience and collaboration during the sport’s normalisation process, emphasising that the reforms were vital to restoring Ghana’s proud boxing heritage.

Key pillars of the new framework include published medical and safety manuals, a functional interim medical commission, a centralised medical database, and an approved insurance framework to ensure athlete welfare and institutional integrity.

The Authority says it will continue working with stakeholders to build a safer, more professional, and sustainable boxing environment, while encouraging local and international promoters to host bouts in Ghana under the new standards.
