The Police have issued a statement on a suspected human trafficking syndicate following the rescue of a 15-year-old Nigerian girl who was trafficked from Nigeria to Ghana for sexual exploitation.

According to the statement from the Western Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tarkwa, officers arrested 25-year-old Joy Ogbonna, a Nigerian national, at Aboso near Tarkwa on Monday, November 3, 2025, in connection with the case. Police said the arrest followed a report by the victim’s father, Ogbonno Onuigbo, who disclosed that his daughter went missing in October 2025 in Nigeria.

The teenager later contacted him on October 24, informing him that she had been trafficked and abused in Ghana. Preliminary investigations revealed that a woman identified as Golden Blessing, now on the run, lured the victim from Enugu to Lagos under the pretext of offering her a cleaning job. She later handed the girl over to Joy Ogbonna, who transported her to Tarkwa.

Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly confined the girl in a room, forced her into sex work, and collected the proceeds. A medical report confirmed that the victim was five weeks pregnant at the time of rescue. Police say the suspect, Joy Ogbonna, is currently in custody and will be arraigned before court soon, while efforts are ongoing to arrest her accomplice, Golden Blessing, believed to be hiding in Nigeria.

The Western Central Regional Police Command commended the public for their timely intervention and reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling human trafficking networks and protecting vulnerable persons from all forms of exploitation.
