Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Dr Randy Abbey, has admitted that Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) was difficult to accept.

The four-time African champions, for the first time in over two decades, will not compete at the continent’s most prestigious tournament.

After six games played during the qualifiers, Ghana finished at the bottom of their group with three points, having failed to win a single match.

Reflecting on the performance of the team after the AFCON qualification failure, Dr Abbey said it was difficult to accept the team’s disappointment.

He, however, added that Black Stars’ setback was a rude awakening.

“It was difficult to take when Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and I believed it served as a rude awakening for Otto Addo and the Black Stars,” Abbey told Sporty FM.

After the disappointment, the Black Stars have redeemed themselves by qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.
