The Dansoman Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Bassit, has remanded four young men into police custody for allegedly possessing substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The accused persons – Nonso Nweke, 24, factory hand; Godwin Ebuka, 24, trader; Cheinonso Eze, 21, Painter and Abanime Christian, 23, Laptop repairer, have all pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and possession of dangerous prohibited drugs, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 29 of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act, 1961 (Act 64).
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Emeila Mensah told the court that on September 7, 2025, at about 8:00 a.m., police received information that four young men were trading in substances suspected to be narcotic drugs at the Railways area near Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
A police team proceeded to the scene and arrested the accused persons, who were found with a black polythene bag containing six white-wrapped substances, suspected to be narcotic drugs.
Upon interrogation, the accused persons allegedly admitted ownership of the substances in their caution statements.
Chief Inspector Mensah said investigations are ongoing and the suspected substances have been forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination.
The court, after listening to the prosecution, directed that the places of abode of the accused persons be ascertained.
Her Honour Abdul-Bassit ordered that they remain in custody, noting that they are likely to be flight risks.
The case has been adjourned to October 15, 2025.
