Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, is set to deliver a keynote address at a high-level forum on Africa’s Trade Future at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The event, scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2025, will spotlight strategies for strengthening Africa’s trade and financial architecture under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). It is being organised by the National Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section, in partnership with its International Law Section.
Held under the theme: “Insurance, Infrastructure and Institutions: Supporting the Financial Future of Trade under the AfCFTA,” the forum will convene policymakers, financiers and industry leaders to discuss how robust financial and insurance systems can drive Africa’s economic transformation.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah is expected to use the platform to showcase Ghana’s leadership in promoting sound fiscal governance, trade facilitation and regional economic cooperation.
His remarks will emphasise the critical role of legislative frameworks and policy innovation in transforming AfCFTA’s ambitions into measurable gains for African economies.
“As host of the AfCFTA Secretariat, Ghana continues to demonstrate that well-structured policy reforms and institutional capacity are key to unlocking the continent’s full trade potential,” a source close to the MP’s office noted ahead of the event.
The IMF forum will also feature senior officials from African financial institutions, global insurers and trade development agencies.
Discussions will focus on de-risking cross-border trade, mobilising investment capital and building a resilient African financial ecosystem capable of supporting inclusive growth.
The engagement forms part of a growing collaboration between the National Bar Association and the AfCFTA Secretariat aimed at deepening legal, financial, and institutional support for Africa’s single market.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah’s participation underscores Ghana’s rising influence in shaping Africa’s trade and development agenda.
His appearance at the IMF is expected to reaffirm the country’s commitment to fostering innovation, regional integration and sustainable economic progress across the continent.
