The Obuasi area Church of Pentecost at the weekend launched its flagship programme – Ministry to Prison Associates (MPA) to give skills training and other forms of support to Ex-Convicts from the Obuasi local Prison and Ahinsan Camp Prison, towards rehabilitation and regeneration in the society.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Monsi Valley Church of Pentecost, the Obuasi Area Head of the Church, Prophet David Kwesi Karikari Beditor, said the Church had observed that invariably most ex-convicts are rejected by their families, hence the MPA initiative, to give support to such persons so that they do not go back to prison.

He explained that if the ex-convict was already a skilled person, the church would support him financially to continue his chosen field or give him or her a new trade altogether.

CSP Francis Deku, Officer-in-Charge of Obuasi Prisons, said Prison is such that any person at all through no fault of him or her can be there and commended the Church of Pentecost for the bold initiative to support ex-convicts.

Pastor DSP Thomas Apraku Debrah, National Coordinator Ministry To Prison Inmates said if the ex-convict intends to continue his education to whatever level the Church is there to support him or her.

The Chronicle learned that the Pentecost Church is constructing a modern Prisons Quarters at Pomposo in the Obuasi East Municipal to replace the old one currently in use.
