Less than six months after handing over a 2-unit semi-detached apartment to nurses at Nsuaem government hospital, Ghana Rubber Estate Limited (GREL) has handed over another two bedroom semi-detached house to nurses at Abura clinic, in the Ahanta West Municipality.
The apartment, started and completed at the request of the chief of Abura, Nana Kweku Mensah IV, cost GHC700.

It was also joy when the two bedroom house was eventually handed over to the staff of the clinic. The clinic itself was also built by GREL to serve the Abura community and its surroundings communities.
At the handing over ceremony, the management of GREL symbolically handed over the keys to the facility to Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX, Omanhene of Lower Dixcove and chairman who handed it over to the Municipal Chief Executive, Ebenezer Kofi Aidoo.

The MCE, in turn, handed over the keys to the chief of Abura, who also handed it over to the Municipal Director of Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Handing over the project, Managing Director of GREL, Thierry Cauchy, indicated that the project was another demonstration of GREL’s dedication to promoting sustainable community development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Across 93 communities, MD Cauchy said GREL had consistently supported projects in areas of potable water, education and health.
MD Cauchy said quality healthcare delivery would not be effective if health workers themselves face accommodation challenges.

“We recognise that nurses posted to Abura were struggling by commuting long distances daily, and this was affecting service delivery”.
This motivated the company to respond to request for decent accommodation facilities for the dedicated health professionals.

“Today, with the completion of this facility, we are confident that the challenges of long commutes and delay responses to health emergencies will be reduced”.
Present at the ceremony were Nana Kwesi Agyemang, Omanhene of Lower Dixcove, Nana Kweku Mensah IV, chief of Abura and his entourage, Felix Mensah, Assembly Member, Mmerantehene Nana Brakwa, Emmanuel Bediana, GHS Municipal Director, amongst others.

Nana Kweku Mensah, in his address acknowledged the difficulty health workers posted to his area endure, especially when it comes to the issue of accommodation.
He was, therefore, grateful that GREL took it up and has now provided accommodation for the nurses.
He was extremely grateful for GREL’s commitment to the project. He said the Abura clinic meant a lot to him and the people of Aura.

Municipal Health Director, Emmanuel Banieh, saidAbura was one of the communities that had a complete health center in terms of infrastructure, thanks to GREL.
He said with the handing over of the facility, was an indication that the company was not in only to make profit but  support human development.
Accommodation, he said, was one of the challenges confronting health staff and with the handing over of the facility, he is sure health delivery would improve in the area.

He also appealed to the staff to maintain the facility by taking good care of it.
