There was spontaneous jubilation at Bompieso, a community in the Presea Hunni-Valley Municipality when a fully furnished three-unit classroom block was handed to the community.
For pupils of Bompieso M/A Basic School, most particularly, they had every reason to be joyous after the fully furnished school block was handed to the school via the community.
This is because, for years, the pupils have had to endure overcrowded classroom, with many forced to share desks and tables.
The strife, however, ended last week following the completion and handing over of the GHC673, 000 fully furnished three-unit school block.
The GH¢673,000 facility comes with a Staff Common room and a Headmaster’s office would highly ease congestion, which would lead to improved learning and teaching condition. This is because each classroom is able to take 120 pupils.
Speaking at the colourful ceremony, attended by chiefs, clergy, academia and community members, Relieving Operations Manager of Abosso Goldfields Limited (AGL), Frank Denkyi, said the project reflected Goldfields’ commitment to education.
He emphasised that education remained the cornerstone of development and that, the mine believed quality education was a fundamental right and a powerful tool for socio-economic transformation.

This is reflected in the millions of investment GFGF has made in education and infrastructure in host communities such as; Subri, Koduakrom, Damang and Huni Valley. Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr. Matthew Ayeh, hailed the project as a bold investment in the future of school children and urged the community to maintain the facility.
“Let’s ensure this block lasts for generations. Pupils must take advantage of this improved environment to excel academically,” MCE Ayeh admonished. Municipal Education Director, Emmanuel Essuman, praised the Foundation for complementing government efforts to bridge the infrastructure gap.
“Together, we are shaping a future where every child in this municipality has access to quality education,” he noted.Head Teacher Joseph Mensah could not hide his excitement when he explained that the school had operated a double-stream system from KG to Primary, but lacked classrooms to replicate that at JHS level.
“Now we can split classes and request the full complement of seven teachers instead of five. With Gold Fields, the problem is solved,” he said.Nana Atta Brempong II, Chief of Bompieso thanked Gold Fields for its continuous investment in education and community development.
