Ghanaian singer and songwriter Kuami Eugene has revealed that his decision to cut off his signature hair marks a fresh start in his music career following his exit from Lynx Entertainment.

Speaking to Doreen Avio, the Monica hitmaker explained that the change in hairstyle is more than just aesthetics.

According to him, it is a visual representation of his transition from his Lynx-era image into a new phase of personal and professional growth.

“I woke up one morning and it’s been a long time, when I got signed to Lynx. It’s been changing hairstyle from one hairstyle to another hairstyle, but I’ve not had a down cut for a very long time, for about six years. I’ll twist it, then I will do this and I will unbraid it, leaving the afro. I changed it just to show a new look and the fact that it’s a new beginning for me from Lynx. It’s a transition from the Lynx boy to your family, sweet boy Kwami Eugene,” he said.

The award-winning musician also disclosed that his departure from Lynx had been in motion for some time, even before public confirmation. He said discussions were already ongoing around the time he released Monica.

“I wasn’t the first person to put it out there that I left Lynx. Richie did that actually, so after he announced that I’ve left Lynx Entertainment on his account, I had a lot of calls but people didn’t know from Monica time, we were in talk for exits a long time ago. When I had Monica playing, I was partially out of Lynx a long time but I just didn’t want to come put it out there and when I had Belinda, I was not even at Lynx at all,” he stated.

Kuami Eugene also addressed public reactions and comments from fellow industry players following his exit from the label. He acknowledged both the support and criticism he has received, citing notable personalities such as A Plus and MC Portfolio, who have publicly praised his talent and potential.

He also responded to past criticism from rapper Guru, who had suggested that Kuami would struggle after leaving Lynx.

“Guru made the comment about me flopping when I’m out of Lynx but he’s a president now. He’s the president of the University of Ghana. I respect that so much, for that sake, I don’t have anything to say about Guru because I respect him so much. I used to go and watch his concerts so it’s a shame when he brought the fight from Richie to me. Then again, he’s a president now and I don’t think as a president, if he gets another opportunity, he’ll say what he said,” he added.
