Three accused persons – Ebenezer Chaka Tsaqa, a 32-year-old musician, Daniel Frimpong, a 31-year-old event planner and Richmond Eshun, also known as Kofi Gada, a 26-year-old event planner – are accused of promising to secure dancehall artist Stonebwoy for an event, but failed to deliver.

They have been arraigned before the Dansoman Circuit Cour, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit for allegedly defrauding the owner of Amist Classic Hotel of GH¢70,000.

The trio are accused of conspiracy to commit crime, to wit, defrauding by false pretences and defrauding by false pretences, both contrary to Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

During their appearance before Her Ladyship Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit yesterday, the accused pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Emelia Mensah alleged that in November 2024, at Kwashieman, in the Greater Accra Region, the accused acted together to defraud the complainant, Kofi Amankwaa, a businessman and owner of Amist Classic Hotel.

According to court records, the complainant planned to host an event at his hotel and sought assistance in securing Stonebwoy as a performing act.

He was introduced to the accused, who presented themselves as capable of arranging the booking.

They allegedly charged GH¢70,000 of which GH¢50,000 was paid as an initial deposit, with the remaining GH¢20,000 provided later.

However, on the scheduled event date, the accused failed to deliver the artist, prompting Amankwaa to report the matter to the police on December 14, 2024.

Following investigations, the three were arrested and charged.

Bail Conditions

Defense counsel, in applying for bail, argued that the facts presented by the prosecution were not the complete truth and that the accused were willing to prove their innocence.

He emphasised that all three accused persons had fixed places of abode in Accra and had responsible individuals willing to stand as sureties.

The prosecution did not oppose the bail application. The court, exercising its discretion, granted each accused person bail of GH¢80,000 with three sureties, all of whom must be public servants earning no less than GH¢5,000 per month and residing within the court’s jurisdiction.

Additionally, the accused are required to deposit their Ghana Cards with the court registry and report to the police station once every two weeks until further notice.

The case has been adjourned, with the prosecution directed to file disclosures and witness statements ahead of the Case Management Conference (CMC) on March 24, 2025.
