Mr Wilberforce Andrews, who wanted to contest the 2024 general elections under the name of “Third Force”, says he played a significant role in the landslide victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Mr Wilberforce, who expressed interest in the presidential position as an independent candidate, his supporters around the country voted for the NDC when he did not file.
The supporters, he said, agreed to his call and profoundly aligned themselves with the NDC and voted massively for Mr John Dramani Mahama and the party’s members of parliament as well.
In a release, he alleged that his endorsement of the NDC’s candidate and his call on his supporters, particularly those in the Central Region to throw their weight behind the NDC, was significant to the party’s success.
Background
He explained that while he was going round the country for his supporters to endorse his nomination forms, it became obvious that his socialist ideologies aligned perfectly with the NDC.
According to him, he visited the NDC’s National Headquarters in Accra, where he explained his decision not to contest as earlier proposed, and that he had asked his followers to vote for the NDC, which they did.
Giving more insight into what transpired during his supposed visit to the NDC Headquarters, he explained that the Director of administration, Mr Emmanuel Zummakpeh, welcomed his ideas
“Hence, I met my national executives who did not agree with my position at the beginning, but after several meetings and discussions, they became convinced”, he said, adding “after all the above processes, I went round 275 constituencies with my secret campaign and convinced all my supporters to massively vote for the NDC, for one touch victory.”
Mr Wilberforce Andrews, who hails from Eyan Denkyira, a community in the Central Region, declared his intention to contest the 2024 general elections as an independent candidate.
The private businessman and human rights activist posited that he could use his rich expertise to address the country’s economic challenges.
Explaining his credentials, he said “I am also a correspondent to International Monitory Fund (IMF) and an executive member to the following institutions:
Global Alliance of Impact Lawyers (GAIL), United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), United Nations Association of Ghana (UNA-GH), Africa Awake Foundation and Anti-Slavery International, among others”.
“In conclusion, I promise that I will continue supporting the winning NDC government with my good national governance policy to become one of the best governments in Africa”, he ended.
