The Deduako-Kodiekrom Youth Association (KOYA) in the Oforikrom Municipality has, as part of its five years anniversary celebrations, donated learning materials to four public basic schools in the municipality.

The items included exercise books, erasers, pens and pencils.

The beneficiary schools are Obeng Faith Experimental Junior High School; Deduako M/A Junior High and Primary Schools and Wilson Adventist Junior High School.

Mr. Gideon Kwarteng, Vice Chairman of the Association, explained that the initiative is aimed at supporting and serving as motivation for the students.

According to him, most of the students come from poor and less privileged backgrounds, hence the association decided to support the poor and less privileged towards building a stronger and more vibrant society for the total development of the students.

He said there are many pupils whose parents cannot afford basic learning items, which the Association deemed prudent to come to their aid.

He appealed to residents in and around Deduako, Kodiekrom and surrounding areas, as well as those in the Diaspora, to support the Association to champion the laudable cause.

Mr. Kwarteng also appealed to the police to beef up security in the communities to reduce criminal activities and drug abuse among the youth in the area.

He further expressed worry over the attitude of residents towards communal labour and appealed to them to get involved and support efforts to keep the environment clean.

The Headmistress of one of the beneficiary schools commended the Association for the kind gesture and appealed to other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and philanthropists to emulate the example of KOYA to help build society.

She also appealed to the Municipal Assembly to provide the schools with dustbins and a dumping site to help keep the school environment clean.
