Zijin Golden Ridge Limited (ZGRL), operator of the Akyem Gold Mine, has reaffirmed its commitment to Ghana’s economic growth and investment agenda, pledging continued support for initiatives aimed at attracting investment and strengthening local businesses.

The company made the commitment through its partnership with the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), organisers of the 2026 Invest Ghana Summit (IGS 2026) and the 22nd Ghana Club 100 Awards.

ZGRL announced the partnership at the official launch of the two flagship events in Accra, which brought together the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and leaders from the public and private sectors.

The Invest Ghana Summit provides a platform for investors, policymakers and business leaders to explore investment opportunities and partnerships across strategic sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

The Ghana Club 100 Awards, meanwhile, recognises leading Ghanaian companies for their performance and contribution to the national economy.

GH¢7bn economic value

ZGRL said its partnership with the investment summit reflected its confidence in Ghana’s investment potential and its commitment to creating long-term value through responsible mining, local employment, procurement, environmental protection and community development.

The company said its contribution to the Ghanaian economy was demonstrated by the more than GH¢7 billion in direct economic value it generated in 2025. According to ZGRL, this included GH¢1.41 billion in taxes and royalties paid to the state, while GH¢4.19 billion was spent on Ghanaian suppliers and service providers.

The company said the expenditure had supported local businesses and strengthened domestic supply chains. The Akyem Gold Mine currently supports 1,235 direct jobs, with 597 people from its 10 host communities employed either directly by the company or through contractors.

‘GHANA REMAINS ATTRACTIVE’

Speaking at the launch, ZGRL Vice President for Sustainability and External Relations, Mr. Jason Zhang, said the company’s participation in the summit underscored its confidence in Ghana as a competitive destination for investment.

“Ghana continues to demonstrate the qualities investors look for – stability, opportunity and a clear vision for growth,” he said.

Mr. Zhang said ZGRL, as a long-term investor in Ghana, was proud to support initiatives such as the Invest Ghana Summit because they promoted investment, encouraged business growth and showcased the country’s economic potential.

He said the company’s experience at Akyem demonstrated that responsible investment could create jobs, strengthen local businesses, generate government revenue and contribute to national development.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

Mr. Zhang also stressed that sustainable investment must deliver positive environmental outcomes alongside economic returns.

He said, through a partnership with the Forestry Commission, ZGRL had restored 317 hectares of land, representing more than three times the area directly affected by its mining activities.

The company is also implementing what it describes as Ghana’s first large-scale biodiversity offset programme in the mining sector, through a 10-year conservation partnership in the Atewa landscape. The initiative is aimed at protecting and restoring critical ecosystems and wildlife habitats in the area.

46 NEW-ENERGY TRUCKS

In another environmental initiative, ZGRL said it had introduced 46 new-energy haul trucks, many of which are fully electric, as part of efforts to reduce emissions and promote cleaner mining technologies.

Mr. Zhang said the company’s guiding philosophy, “Mining for a Better Society,” captured its approach to responsible investment.

“For us, that means creating opportunities for Ghanaians, supporting local enterprise, protecting the environment and ensuring that the benefits of investment and mining continue to create value for generations to come,” he said.

The 2026 Invest Ghana Summit and Ghana Club 100 Awards are expected to bring together government leaders, investors, business executives and development partners to explore opportunities in investment, innovation and economic transformation.

The partnership with ZGRL adds a major mining-sector dimension to the investment drive, particularly around local procurement, employment, environmental stewardship and sustainable enterprise development.
