The Ghana Premier League’s 2026/27 season gathered further momentum at the weekend as Match Day Two produced 21 goals across eight matches, with every completed fixture ending in a victory.

The second round offered a mixture of dominant displays, late drama, impressive comebacks and first victories for several clubs still searching for their rhythm. Unlike the opening weekend, which produced three draws, none of the eight matches played this weekend ended level.

Bibiani Gold Stars 1–2 Hearts of Oak

Hearts of Oak maintained their perfect start to the season with a 2-1 comeback victory over Bibiani Gold Stars.

The home side made the better start and stunned the Phobians by taking the lead in the 11th minute through Kwame Opoku. The early goal forced Hearts to chase the game, but the visitors showed the resilience that has characterised their start under new coach Nebojsa Kapor.

After the break, Hearts increased the pressure and eventually found the equaliser through Yaw Amankwa Baafi in the 52nd minute.

The momentum had clearly shifted in favour of the visitors, and just three minutes later Kwaku Boateng Henry completed the turnaround by putting Hearts ahead.

The Phobians now lead the table with six points, six goals scored and just one conceded.

Asante Kotoko 2–1 Heart of Lions

Asante Kotoko secured their first victory of the season with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Heart of Lions at home.

The Porcupine Warriors looked determined to avoid another dropped lead and took control of the match when Emmanuel Mamah found the net in the 27th minute. Kotoko doubled their advantage through Isaac Opoku Agyemang in the 63rd minute.

Heart of Lions faced an even more difficult task after being reduced to 10 men late in the game. Despite the numerical disadvantage they managed to pull a goal back through a stoppage-time penalty converted by Francis Odoom.

AshantiGold 3–1 Vision FC

AshantiGold produced one of the most impressive performances of Matchday Two by beating Vision FC 3-1 and securing their first victory of the new Premier League campaign.

The Miners made the perfect start when David Gyamfi opened the scoring in the seventh minute, giving Vision an early problem to solve.

Vision FC, however, responded and found an equaliser through Sheriff Mohammed Iddrisu, putting the visitors back into the contest.

Gyamfi restored AshantiGold’s advantage before completing his hat-trick to put the game beyond Vision’s reach. His three-goal performance made him the first player to score a hat-trick in the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Aduana Stars 0–1 Samartex

Samartex continued their excellent start to the season with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Aduana Stars. The match appeared to be heading towards a goalless draw, with both sides struggling to find the breakthrough despite their efforts to unlock the opposition defence.

Samartex remained patient and continued to search for a late opportunity. That persistence eventually paid off in stoppage time when Ebenezer Okrah found the decisive goal to send the visitors home with all three points.

The victory means Samartex remain one of only two clubs with a perfect six-point record.

Berekum Chelsea 3–1 Dreams FC

Berekum Chelsea bounced back strongly from their opening-day disappointment by defeating Dreams FC 3-1 to record their first three points of the campaign.

The victory moves Chelsea onto three points after two matches and provides some much-needed confidence following their opening-day setback.

Dreams, on the other hand, have started the season with a defeat and remain without a point from their only match so far, having their opening fixture postponed.

Karela United 3–1 Bechem United

Karela United recorded their first victory of the season with a convincing 3-1 win over Bechem United.

Having lost to Samartex on the opening weekend, Karela entered the match looking to make an immediate response. Kelvin Appiah put the hosts ahead in the 22nd minute, giving Karela the early advantage they had been searching for.

Bechem United responded and managed to level the score through Mohammed Zaidan, bringing the visitors back into the contest.

The equaliser, however, did little to stop Karela’s momentum. Jonas Wisdom Manyina restored the hosts’ lead before Joseph Bekoe added a third goal late in the match to secure a comfortable victory.

Swedru All Blacks 1–0 Debibi United

Swedru All Blacks claimed their first Premier League victory of the season after edging Debibi United 1-0 in a closely contested encounter.

The match was decided by a single goal, with John Josiah Andoh finding the net to give All Blacks the advantage.

The victory puts All Blacks on three points from two matches and represents an important response after their opening-day defeat.

Young Apostles 1–0 Holy Stars

Young Apostles secured their first three points of the season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Holy Stars.

The hosts made a dream start when Samuel Prempeh scored in the seventh minute, giving Young Apostles an early advantage and forcing Holy Stars to chase the game for almost the entire contest.

The early goal ultimately proved decisive as Young Apostles held firm to secure their first victory of the season.

Conclusion

Two rounds into the campaign, the league is already showing a clear divide between early contenders and teams still searching for consistency. Hearts of Oak and Samartex have set the pace with maximum points, while AshantiGold and Asante Kotoko are beginning to close the gap.

Table

The 21 goals recorded this weekend also point to an increasingly open contest, but the number of narrow victories suggests that defensive organisation could prove just as important as attacking quality as the season progresses. With several clubs separated by only a few points and Medeama yet to enter the race, the early standings offer clues rather than conclusions.
