Armed bandits have reportedly invaded Igbesi community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting the traditional ruler, Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, the Kabiyesi Onigbesi of Igbesi land.
Igbesi is a community within Oke-Onigbin town in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara South Senatorial District.
The attack reportedly occurred around 11pm on Saturday, August 22, 2026, when the armed men stormed the community.
A local source said the monarch was taken to an unknown location alongside some other residents during the attack.
“As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of victims and the whereabouts of the abducted monarch remained unclear,” the source said.
However, the Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the traditional ruler.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, who confirmed the development in a chat with Channels Television, said no other person was kidnapped.
The police commissioner said efforts were underway to rescue the monarch.
