The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has denied media reports that he has been summoned to answer questions on the damning allegation of extortion levelled against him by Sammy Gyamfi.
In a statement issued on his Facebook page on Monday morning, 24th August 2026, Afenyo-Markin described the report as untrue.
He stated that “On the contrary, ahead of the reconvening of Parliament, I have summoned my colleagues for our Caucus meeting”.
He maintained that this “is routinely done ahead of every Meeting of Parliament, to strategise and coordinate our parliamentary business,”
According to him, the meeting is a regular practice of the Minority Caucus and should not be misrepresented as anything else.
He has therefore called on myjoyonline.com to pull down what he described as misinformation from its website and correct the record.
“Stop the misinformation! Stop the misinformation! Stop the misinformation! Your report that I have been summoned is untrue,” he stressed.

The denial comes on the back of a public row between the Minority Leader and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi.
Afenyo-Markin had raised concerns about the financial implications of GoldBod’s operations, particularly losses associated with the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme, following an International Monetary Fund assessment indicating that the programme recorded losses of about $1.7 billion in 2025.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 19, Gyamfi dismissed the criticisms, insisting that they were intended to discredit GoldBod.
“Afenyo-Markin’s continuing antics must therefore be seen for what they are—a desperate smear campaign by persons who have specialised in sophistry and political blackmail in pursuit of selfish ends,” he said. 8608
He added: “These are devious extortionists who will come at you with lies to tarnish your reputation in the hope that you will fold and settle for what they call compulsory arbitration and oil their palms”.
