The Kingmakers of the Ahanta Baidoo Bonsoe Paramount Stool have declared that no legitimate enstoolment or installation of a new Paramount Chief can take place until the late Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe XV is accorded his final burial rites in accordance with Ahanta customs and tradition.

The resolution, contained in a public notice issued after a meeting of the Kingmakers held on July 3, 2026 at the Queensland Hotel in Takoradi, seeks to clarify the current state of affairs within the Baidoo Bonsoe Paramountcy and address issues surrounding the ongoing Ahanta Heritage Month celebrations.

According to the Kingmakers, customary law unequivocally prohibits the selection or installation of a successor to the Paramount Stool before the burial of the deceased occupant of the stool.

They further stated that the same customary principle applies to the severed head of Baidoo Bonsoe II, which is currently being kept at the mortuary of the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, indicating that the matter also remains subject to the applicable traditional processes.

The meeting also resolved a long-standing misunderstanding between Nana Nwinwa Nwinwa IV, Ninfahene of the Hotopo Division and a Kingmaker of the Paramount Stool, and Nana Ezieaku IV, Tufuhene of the Agona Division and also a Kingmaker.

According to the statement, both chiefs accepted the settlement of their grievances pending the final funeral rites of the late Baidoo Bonsoe XV, who also served as a member of Ghana’s Council of State during the administration of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

As part of efforts to foster unity within the traditional area, the Kingmakers directed the Tufuhene and the Ninfahene to convene an extraordinary meeting involving divisional chiefs, queen mothers, representatives of vacant stools, sub-divisional chiefs, Odikrofo, heads of stool families, Asafo companies and other stakeholders.

The meeting is expected to deliberate on matters relating to the Ahanta Heritage Month celebration and discuss broader issues affecting the Ahanta Traditional Area.

The Kingmakers also threw their support behind the Ahanta Heritage Month celebrations being spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for Ahanta West, Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue.

They said the MP had consulted the traditional authorities before initiating the programme and had received the blessings of Nananom to organise the month-long cultural celebration.

The Kingmakers therefore urged the public to disregard any contrary claims and fully participate in the scheduled Ahanta Heritage Month activities.

The statement was jointly signed by Nana Ezieaku IV, Tufuhene of the Agona Division, and Nana Nwinwa Nwinwa IV, Ninfahene of the Hotopo Division, on behalf of the Kingmakers of the Baidoo Bonsoe Paramount Stool.
