The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has invoked the Right to Information (RTI) Act to request official records relating to the Damang Mining Lease awarded to Engineers and Planners Limited.
In an application dated June 19, 2026 and addressed to the Information Officer of the Minerals Commission, the MP requested a range of documents concerning the concession, including records relating to the tender process, the terms and conditions of the lease, payments made to the state and the duration of the agreement.
Mr Awuah is also seeking production records for the Damang Mine covering the period from 2023 to 2026, including information on gold produced from active mining operations and gold recovered through stockpile processing.
The application further requests details on gold-bearing stockpiles that existed when active mining ceased and when the concession reverted to the state.
The MP is also seeking information on activities undertaken during the transition period following the expiry of the previous lease.
Additional records requested include information relating to gold processed, sold or exported during the transition period, as well as documentation on assay, valuation and related transactions.
According to the application, the request is being made under provisions of the RTI Act, which grants citizens access to information held by public institutions, subject to exemptions provided by law.
The request comes following the award of the Damang Mining Lease to Engineers and Planners Limited after a competitive tender process conducted by the Minerals Commission.
The concession was previously operated by Abosso Gold Fields Limited under a lease granted in 1995. That lease expired in April 2025 and was not renewed.
Following the expiry of the lease, the Minerals Commission initiated a competitive tender process for the concession. Four companies submitted bids before the deadline.
According to information released by the Commission, Engineers and Planners Limited emerged as the successful bidder after the evaluation process and was subsequently awarded the lease.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, approved the recommendation in April 2026 and the concession was formally handed over to the company later that month.
In his application, Mr Awuah reminded the Minerals Commission of the timelines provided under the RTI Act for responding to requests for information.
He also requested that where any records sought are unavailable, the Commission should provide the appropriate response in accordance with the provisions of the law.
