The Executive Secretary of the Right to Information Commission, Ms Genevieve Shirley Lartey (Esq), has visited offices of the Commission in the Ashanti and Bono regions to interact with staff, find out about their well-being and general operations of the outfit in those regions.

Receiving the Executive Secretary and her delegation to the Bono Office, Mr. Osborne Adomako Akuoko, the Regional Head of the RTIC disclosed that the Office had been very active with sensitisation and awareness creation on the mandate and objectives of the Commission, as well as ensuring the compliance regime of the Commission by the institutions and agencies in that part of the country.

Mr. Akuoko said the Bono office had some challenges, which militate against the smooth running of the office including vehicles, computers and laptops among others, especially for the fact that the region also has the responsibility for the Bono East region.

In a similar development, The Ashanti Regional Head of the Commission, Mr. William Woode said the office had extended it sensitisation and public awareness activities to schools aimed at inculcating in the youth the essence of the free flow of information as a critical tool for good and open governance.

He said the office has a peculiar challenge for the fact that it caters for 46 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region, which calls for mobility and other resources to be able to perform its duties efficiently.

The two Regional Heads expressed appreciation of staff to the visit by the Executive Secretary and her team and also commended the two Regional Administrations for providing them with office accommodation.

The Executive Secretary assured the staff of both regions that the Board, Management and Staff at Head Office are doing everything possible to meet the challenges of the regional staff and offices and urged them to remain on course with their satisfactory performances so far.

She said the mandate of the Commission was such that it places a heavy responsibility on the staff wherever they found themselves in helping to ensure inclusive and transparent governance for the country.

In a remark, the Technical Advisor, Mr. Kweku Sersah-Johnson, urged the staff to remain united, committed and dedicated to their call and that Management has instituted an award scheme to recognize and appreciate hard working staff throughout the country.

Mr. Stephe Owusu, Head of Legal called on the staff to be alert in their responsibilities to avoid being branded inquisitorial or vexatious since that would negatively impact on the mandate of the Commission.

Ms. Shirley Lartey was accompanied on the tour by Mr. Kweku Sersah-Johnson, Technical Advisor, Mr. Stephen Owusu, Head of Legal, Mrs. Ewurabena Ewool, Head of Human Resources and Madam Vivian Tetteh, Head of Enforcement, Investigations and Compliance.

As part of her itinerary, the Executive Secretary paid courtesy calls on the two Regional Ministers, Joseph Addaei Akwaboa and Frank Amoakohene of the Bono Ashanti regions.
