Three civilians and seven suspected attackers were killed, while 10 others were arrested, when a Ghana Armed Forces escort convoy came under attack at Binduri in the Upper East Region yesterday morning.

According to a statement issued by the Military High Command, the convoy was escorting about 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga when unknown gunmen opened fire on the vehicles. One other civilian sustained injuries during the ambush.

The military said troops accompanying the convoy returned fire and successfully repulsed the attackers, leading to the death of seven of the assailants.

It further disclosed that during a pursuit operation, soldiers tracked one fleeing suspect to a mosque, where they recovered a G3 automatic rifle, two fully loaded magazines containing 20 rounds each, and an additional 176 rounds of ammunition.

Ten suspects have since been arrested and are assisting security agencies with investigations.

The Ghana Armed Forces cautioned the public against engaging military personnel or any other security service during ongoing operations in the conflict-prone area.

It also extended condolences to the families of the deceased civilians and wished the injured person a speedy recovery.
