The Member of Parliament (MP) for the New Juaben North in the Eastern region, Nana Osei Adjei, has made a significant donation of essential medical equipment and supplies to the Akwadum Health Centre, aimed at improving maternal and child healthcare delivery in the area.
The donation, which coincided with the Easter celebrations, forms part of the MP’s ongoing commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure within his constituency and ensuring that vulnerable groups, particularly pregnant women and newborns, receive quality medical attention.
Vital Equipment for Maternal and Emergency Care
The items presented to the facility include a hydraulic theater bed, an ICU 3-crank bed, a complete delivery set, and a baby’s cot, as well as detergents and baby diapers, which are expected to enhance the operational capacity of the health center, especially in handling childbirth and emergency cases.
Health officials at the facility expressed relief and appreciation, noting that the lack of modern equipment has long posed challenges to effective service delivery, particularly during complicated deliveries.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the MP who doubles as a Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament emphasized the importance of investing in healthcare as a cornerstone of national development.
He reiterated his dedication to improving the welfare of his constituents through strategic interventions in critical sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure.
Nana Osei Adjei indicated that maternal healthcare remains a top priority, given its direct impact on reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.
“No woman should lose her life while giving life, and no child should be denied a healthy start due to lack of basic medical equipment,” he stated.
The MP further assured residents that his office would continue to collaborate with health authorities and stakeholders to address pressing challenges facing healthcare facilities in the constituency.
The donation has been widely welcomed by residents and healthcare workers alike, who believe it will go a long way in improving service delivery at the Akwadum Health Centre.
Midwives and Nurses at the facility highlighted that the new equipment will not only improve efficiency, but also boost morale among staff, enabling them to provide safer and more effective care to patients.
Community members also lauded the MP for his thoughtful gesture, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly during the Easter season, a period often associated with compassion, renewal, and giving.
The gesture underscores a growing recognition of the need for targeted investments in primary healthcare facilities, especially in semi-urban and rural communities where resources are often limited.
With this intervention, the Akwadum Health Centre is expected to experience a marked improvement in maternal and neonatal care outcomes, bringing relief to many families within New Juaben North and beyond.
