The Member of Parliament for the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency, Kofi Arko Nokoe, has called for calm and restraint following growing tensions between the Lower Axim and Nsein traditional authorities.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the MP expressed deep concern over recent developments stemming from an exchange at a news conference involving Awulae Attibrukusu III of the Lower Axim Traditional Area and Awulae Agyefi Kwame II of the Nsein Traditional Area.

Describing both traditional institutions as longstanding symbols of unity, identity and cultural heritage, Mr Nokoe stressed the need for all parties to handle chieftaincy-related matters with dignity, restraint and mutual respect.

“As a proud son of both traditional areas, I am deeply concerned about the potential for these developments to create avoidable tension,” he stated. He urged residents, particularly the youth, to remain calm and law-abiding, cautioning against any actions or utterances that could escalate the situation.

The MP emphasised the importance of dialogue and due process in resolving the impasse, noting that peaceful engagement remains the best pathway to sustaining harmony between the two closely linked communities.

Mr Nokoe further disclosed plans to engage key stakeholders, including the Municipal Security Council, the Western Regional Coordinating Council, the Nzema Manle Council and the Regional House of Chiefs, to help address the situation and ensure fairness, stability and lasting peace.

He assured constituents that every necessary step would be taken to safeguard unity within the Lower Axim and Nsein traditional areas, as well as the broader constituency.

“We must, above all, put our communities and our people first. Let peace prevail,” he concluded.
