An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of car dealer, Morgan Selly, for allegedly misappropriating GH¢160,000 from the proceeds of a vehicle sale.

Morgan Selly is accused of dishonestly appropriating funds from the sale of a Toyota Tacoma 2020 model vehicle belonging to Albert Tabiri, a mining consultant who resides at Adenta, in Accra.

According to the statement of offence, the accused is charged with stealing, contrary to Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Brief Facts of the Case

Court documents indicate that in February 2024, the complainant, Albert Tabiri, entrusted his unregistered Toyota Tacoma 2020 model vehicle to Morgan Selly to sell on his behalf, at an agreed price of GH¢460,000.

Investigations revealed that Selly successfully sold the vehicle to a witness in the case, for the agreed amount of GH¢460,000.

However, after the transaction, he reportedly handed over only GH¢300,000 to the complainant and misappropriated the remaining GH¢160,000.

During police investigations, Morgan Selly allegedly admitted to misappropriating the money, claiming that the complainant owed him some money, a claim not supported by any formal agreement or documentation, according to prosecutors.

Following investigations, Morgan Selly was charged and arraigned before the court. His failure to appear in court led Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah to issue a bench warrant for his arrest, to ensure his appearance to face the charge.

The case remains pending as police move to execute the warrant and bring the accused before the court to answer to the charge of stealing.
