Kingmakers of Asante Mampong have successfully installed a new Mamponghene (Omanhene of Asante Mampong), in the person of Odehyie Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu.

The new chief, answers to the stool name of Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, after Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who died in April 2025 at the age of 86.
The chief of Asante Mampong before Nana Osei Bonsu II was Nana Akuamoa Boateng Ababio, who reigned from 1987 to 1996.

His reign was declared null and void by the Supreme Court of Ghana, paving the way for Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who was the Chief of Asante Mampong, since 1996 and reigned for 29 years until his demise last year.
The late Mamponghene served as the Regent of the Kingdom of Ashanti from February 25, 1999 to April 26, 1999 upon the demise of Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.

Following the January 5 installation, the new Mampong Chief has since sworn the oath of allegiance to Chiefs, the Stool and his people on January 5, 2026 at the Kyenkuduase, at Mampong, to occupy the Silver Stool of the Mampong Bretuo Dynasty.
The installation process would, however, be completed with the swearing of an oath of allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for full legitimisation.
In attendance at the installation were the Mamponghemaa Nana Agyakoma Difie II, Ejisuhemaa Nana Yaa Asantewaa and other traditional leaders, as well as the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene and the NDC Regional chairman, Mr. Augustus Nana Akwasi Andrews.

The installation ceremony comes after the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had approved his nomination.
Nana Agyakomaa Difie II on October 13, 2025 nominated 51-year-old Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu as the next Mamponghene.
His nomination was formalised with a traditional rite at the Mampong Palace to mark the beginning of the transition process pending the approval of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
On December 18, 2025, the queen of Asante Mampong Traditional Area, Nana Agyakomaa Difie II and Barima Osei Hwedie, Ejurahene led the Kingmakers of Asante Mampong State to introduce Daasebre Osei Bonsu III to the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace, where Otumfuo directed the Kingmakers to groom the new chief after he had sworn the oath of allegiance to Mampong stool elders and kingmakers and the people.
