ArsenalBayern meet in a highly-anticipated clash

The two best teams in Europe right now – according to the Champions League table after four matchdays – Arsenal and Bayern Munich meet in a highly-anticipated heavyweight clash at the Emirates on Wednesday evening.

Both Mikel Arteta and Vincent Kompany have led their sides to 12 points from a possible 12 so far, but at least one perfect record will cease to exist when the final whistle blows.

An astounding domestic and continental double can be considered a realistic goal for Arteta’s title chasers, who have been nothing short of flawless in the 2025-26 Champions League so far – four games, four wins, 11 goals scored and zero conceded.

Only Bayern’s superior goals scored tally is keeping Arsenal off of top spot in the 36-team league phase table, although results on Tuesday could bump both sides off of the podium places before their blockbuster battle.

Seldom outclassed at home in the competition, Arsenal head into Wednesday’s headline encounter seeking a 16th successive Emirates win in the Champions League league-phase/group stage, but the toughest challenge that could possibly await them now awaits them.

Bayern may not boast Arsenal’s impeccable defensive record in this season’s Champions League, but Vincent Kompany’s troops have been on the goalscoring warpath and flexed their attacking muscles at the home of the holders on matchday four.

Arteta’s men may be considered slight favourites thanks to the absences of Diaz, Musiala and Davies for the visitors, but with Olise and Harry Kane consistently weaving their magic, we can only picture the two sides splitting the spoils in an absorbing stalemate.

Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan lock horns at the Metropolitano

Atletico Madrid boast a perfect home record and Inter Milan have maximum points in the Champions League, meaning something must give on Wednesday evening, when they lock horns at the Metropolitano.

After Atleti knocked Inter out of Europe’s top competition two seasons ago, they will reconvene in Spain, with the hosts far from sure of making the playoffs.

Atletico Madrid’s Champions League campaign has proved unpredictable so far, leaving them on six points midway through this season’s league phase.

Diego Simeone‘s men have twice tasted defeat in England – losing 3-2 at Liverpool and suffering a 4-0 loss to Arsenal – while winning 5-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt and then 3-1 in their most recent outing.

Earlier this month, Atleti saw off Union Saint-Gilloise in the Spanish capital.

When his team last clashed with Inter, in the 2024 knockout phase, Atleti eventually prevailed on penalties after winning the second leg on home turf.

Though Inter have won just one of their last 15 group matches against Spanish opposition, they otherwise have a formidable record behind them.

Beaten finalists in May – for the second time in three seasons – the Italian giants have won 10 of their last 11 league-phase fixtures, including this month’s 2-1 victory over Kairat.

The Nerazzurri had already put Ajax, Slavia Prague and Union SG to the sword, getting themselves on track for an automatic place in the next phase.

Atleti need the points more, so they will throw everything at an Inter side still reeling from their derby defeat.

Tottenham Hotspur travel away to meet PSG                                                        European champion meets European champion at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday evening, when Paris Saint-Germain welcome Tottenham Hotspur to their illustrious home in the Champions League league phase.

The contest is a repeat of this year’s UEFA Super Cup, which the Ligue 1 giants won on penalties, but travelling fans may be fearing a more comprehensive defeat this time around.

PSG suffered the first dent in their Champions League title defence just three weeks ago, when the winning machine of Bayern Munich left the French capital with a 2-1 victory.

Despite no longer boasting a perfect record in this season’s competition, PSG enter matchweek five still comfortably on course for automatic last-16 qualification, sitting fifth in the 36-team table and within touching distance of Bayern, Arsenal and Inter Milan.

Les Parisiens have also never suffered back-to-back Champions League home defeats in their history, and Luis Enrique‘s men have responded to their Bayern beating with successive Ligue 1 successes, although their 3-2 win over Lyon was shrouded in refereeing controversy.

However, there was nothing contentious about Les Parisiens’ 3-0 triumph over Le Havre on Saturday, but the reigning European champions are not quite the same force that obliterated Inter in the 2024-25 UCL final.

Spurs’ unbeaten Champions League record remains intact after two wins and two draws from their opening four games this season, and the Lilywhites have also kept clean sheets in five of their last seven European matches at any level.

However, Spurs have struggled to build out from the back all season long, and even a Dembele, Doue and Hakimi-less PSG should cruise to victory on their own turf.

Real Madrid chase history against Olympiacos

European kings Real Madrid will be chasing history on Wednesday evening, with the Spanish giants looking to beat Olympiacos away from home in the Champions League for the first time.

Los Blancos are seventh in the overall Champions League table, boasting nine points from their first four games in the league phase of the competition, while the Greek giants are down in 31st spot on two points.

It has been a struggle for Olympiacos in the Champions League this season, boasting a record of two draws and two defeats from their four matches to leave them down in 31st spot in the overall table on two points.

The Red-Whites will enter this match off the back of a 3-0 home success over Atromitos.

Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid

Olympiacos have actually won four of their last five games in all competitions – remaining unbeaten in the process – during an excellent run, and they have never lost to Real Madrid on home soil.

Indeed, three of the four meetings between the two sides in Greece have finished level, including a goalless draw in their last clash in November 2007, while Olympiacos beat Los Blancos 2-1 at home in December 2005.

Each of Real Madrid’s four previous wins over Olympiacos have come on home soil, so the Spanish giants will be looking to create history on Wednesday night, but Xabi Alonso‘s side will not enter the game in the best of form.
