It was jubilation and happiness galore over the weekend for residents in nine communities in Akrofuom District of the Ashanti region, as they were hooked onto the national grid.
The nine communities are Kofi Gyaame, Benkumhene, Asiedukrom, Grumesa, Car Owner, Akwaako, Agya Atta, Botwekrom and Dunkwafuom.
Speaking at separate ceremonies to commission the project, Mr. Alex Blankson, MP for Akrofuom, underscored the importance of electricity in man’s life, as electricity has been extended to residents in the nine communities.
He said his next challenge is how to get the deplorable roads in the constituency fixed, but was quick to say that with the acquisition of road equipment from the government, the roads will be fixed soon.
The District Chief Executive, Mr. Maurice Jonas Woode, said before the creation of the district, only a few communities were enjoying electricity and said that as of now, only ten communities are yet to be connected to the national grid.
He mentioned roads and telecommunications networks as the two major problems facing the district.
Mr. Frederick Frimpong, Assemblyman for Botwekrom Electoral Area, on behalf of his people, thanked the government, the MP, and the DCE for facilitating the provision of electricity for the beneficiary communities.
Nana Barffour Akoto and Grumesa Odikro expressed their appreciation for the commissioning of the project for the nine communities.
He, however, reminded the DCE of his promise to construct a water closet toilet for Grumesa.
According to him, the toilet project had to be delayed because there was no electricity in the area at the time he made the promise.
