The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has commissioned the 5.80-kilometer School Junction to Motorway Road Project.
The commissioning ceremony occurred on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Borteyman Roundabout.
The road, which stretches from School Junction through Borteyman, to the motorway, connects to the Olympic-sized stadium at Borteyman, constructed for the 13th African Games.
This project serves as a critical artery for the eastern part of Accra, linking communities such as Communities 17, 18, 19, 23 and 24 in Tema, including Borteyman, Adjiringanor, Adenta and Dodowa.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo remarked that the road not only alleviates traffic congestion but also establishes new economic corridors, encouraging the growth of businesses and communities alike.
He also described it as a major step towards improving infrastructure and easing traffic congestion in the Greater Accra Region.
“This project is more than just the completion of a road; it is a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling its promises and ensuring that the benefits of governance are felt by all citizens,” he opined.
INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
President Akufo-Addo highlighted the importance of infrastructure in national development. “When I assumed office in January 2017, I did so with a resolute pledge to transform the infrastructure of our nation, fully aware that robust infrastructure is the foundation upon which sustainable development is built,” he stated.
“Today, as we unveil this essential road, we are reminded that our words were not mere rhetoric but a call to action, an action that has materialised before us,” he added.
The President praised the efforts of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Department of Urban Roads and the Contractor, Oswal Investment Limited, who worked tirelessly to bring the project to fruition.
He emphasised that this progress is the result of deliberate and focused leadership, as well as the collective effort of dedicated professionals.

MINISTER’S REMARKS
Also speaking at the commissioning, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, provided further insights into the project’s significance.
“This newly constructed road, spanning 5.80 kilometers, is an important link for the communities it serves, providing vital access to key destinations and facilitating smoother movement of people and goods,” he said.
He mentioned that the road forms part of the A15 arterial network within the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA), starting from Awoshie Baah Yard and connecting various neighbourhoods, before joining the motorway.
The Minister noted the challenges commuters previously faced when travelling between Tema, Borteyman, School Junction, Ashaley Botwe, Adentan and beyond.
FUTURE PLANS
The Minister assured Ghanaians that the government is not stopping here, as the Ministry has programmed the construction of an overpass to further ease the flow of traffic during peak periods at School Junction.
Additionally, he said that approval has been secured for the construction of an additional 1.80 kilometers of the un-engineered section of the Kwabenya-Agbogba Road, which will commence soon.
Asenso-Boakye expressed gratitude to the Department of Urban Roads and all stakeholders involved in the project.
He said that “without your collective effort, this achievement would not have been possible. Yes, indeed, with your support and government commitment and leadership, it is possible.”
